Treat Unsightly Spider Veins with the Lumenis One Nd:YAG Laser
Laser Vein Removal Chelmsford, Massachusetts
Unsightly leg veins, often referred to as “spider veins,” can be a problem for millions of men and women. Until now, treating these veins was a lengthy and painful process with needles or other invasive treatments. Now, with the advent of laser therapy, unsightly veins can be eliminated with a simple, non-invasive alternative to traditional sclerotherapy.
If you suffer from spider veins, learn more about laser vein treatment by contacting the Chelmsford, Massachusetts Center for Plastic Surgery. We are committed to providing our patients with the most advanced care possible, which is why we have invested in the Lumenis One Nd:YAG Laser.
The light of the Nd:YAG Laser penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the blood. The light then turns into heat energy when absorbed by the treated blood vessel. The temperature within the treated vessel raises enough to cause it to coagulate, collapse, and then break down. Over time the vein is reabsorbed by the body and disappears. Due to the nature of this treatment, only spider veins can be treated, not large varicose veins.
Safe and Effective Laser Treatment
Patients with spider veins should expect to have an average of two to four laser treatments, spread apart by about six weeks. The size, color, and depth of the vein will determine the level of discomfort to the patient. It will feel like a pinch, similar to a snapped rubber band. This sensation is only felt while the heat is being absorbed into the vein and will immediately dissipate. You may experience minor bruising immediately after the treatment that could last a week or so. To help speed up the recovery and decrease the amount of bruising, it is imperative that each patient wear compression stockings for three to four days following each treatment. You may also need to limit some of your physical activity for a few days after the treatment. Prior to each treatment, you must limit your exposure to the sun because laser vein removal should not be performed on tanned skin.
