Chelmsford Brow Lift Recovery

A brow lift is a plastic surgery procedure that can give patients a more youthful appearance by smoothing the skin along the brow and forehead and lifting the eye brows. Patients should take time to prepare themselves for the procedure and know what to expect before, during, and after brow lift surgery. When patients come to Chelmsford plastic surgeon Dina Eliopoulos for brow lift surgery, she makes sure they have realistic expectations for the results of surgery and are prepared for what to expect during the recovery period.

When you return home after brow lift surgery, you will have bandages or compression garments protecting the forehead and brow. Some patients may also have a drainage tube and/or sutures at the incision sites. These bandages are usually worn for the first several days after surgery while any sutures should be removed in one to two weeks. It is very important that you follow Dr. Eliopoulos’ care instructions regarding when and how to clean the incision site or replace these bandages. Ensuring that the surgical site remains clean can reduce your risk of infection or other surgical complications.

Brow Lift Side Effects

Patients should be aware that no surgery is free of side effects. There are many symptoms that are likely to be present after brow lift surgery. Some of the most common side effects include:

  • Swelling
  • Itching
  • Tingling or numb sensation
  • Bruising along the brows and forehead
  • Tenderness, pain, and discomfort

These symptoms can be expected to last for a week after surgery. If these symptoms persist or if any other symptoms are present, you should discuss this with Dr. Eliopoulos.

Brow Lift Recovery Tips

While these common symptoms cannot be avoided, there are steps that can be taken to make these side effects more manageable. Some helpful tips include the following:

  • Take prescribed pain medication per Dr. Eliopoulos’ instructions
  • Get plenty of rest but make sure you keep your head elevated when lying down
  • Drink plenty of water to keep hydrated
  • Avoid foods high in sodium to help keep swelling down
  • Ice the area as needed to ease discomfort or reduce swelling

Within a week after surgery, most patients find that their symptoms have subsided and they are ready to return to work and other normal activities. It is a good idea to ease back into your normal routine. Within a few weeks, most patients no longer notice any side effects of brow lift surgery. Even if you feel like you have healed completely, you should avoid vigorous exercise or any activities that can raise your blood pressure for at least four weeks after surgery. This will help ensure a full recovery and give you optimal results from brow lift surgery.
