Turning Back the Hands of Time with Morpheus8 Radiofrequency Microneedling

January 12th, 2022 — by Dina Eliopoulos

Did you know that starting in your 20’s, your collagen production will start to decline, and this continues to accelerate in our 30s and 40s. But have no fear, Morpheus8 is here!

Developing fine lines, sagging skin and wrinkles on the face and body are common hallmarks of the aging process that naturally occur when our levels of collagen and elastin in the body begin to decrease. As these levels decrease, we lose volume and elasticity in our skin, which results in less taut, sagging skin.

Many people think that you need to see visible signs of aging or reach a certain age to begin undergoing anti-aging aesthetic treatments. However, when it comes to anti-aging prevention, the sooner you start, the better. You can effectively preserve collagen production by taking preventative or 'prejuvenation‘ measures in your 20s-30s. Prejuvenation is a term that's popular to describe younger patients looking to prevent signs of aging. This is critical for ensuring youthful skin as collagen is the major protein backbone that gives skin its structure and helps plump up the skin and smooth out wrinkles.

Fortunately, with technology innovations in the beauty industry, such as advanced Morpheus8 radiofrequency technology, you don’t have to live with older looking skin. With this technology, you have an accessible body and face contouring solution that can reduce unwanted signs of aging and unveil your more youthful, natural appearance.

What is Morpheus8 Radiofrequency Technology?

Morpheus8 (part of the BodyTite platform by InMode) is an advanced microneedling treatment that combines traditional microneedling with radiofrequency energy for face and body tightening. The addition of radiofrequency energy helps stimulate the production of collagen and elastin - the building blocks of healthy, youthful skin.

During the treatment, microneedles penetrate the skin and create micro-injuries on the targeted areas. Then the heat from the radiofrequency energy is emitted from the tips of the microneedles. This stimulates collagen production to lift, tighten, and tone the treated skin.

It’s important to know that although Morpheus8 uses tiny needles, this non-invasive treatment occurs right in our office with some topical numbing, so patients find in very tolerable and easy to undergo.

What are the Benefits of Advanced Morpheus8 vs. Traditional Microneedling or other RF Microneedling Devices?

Morpheus8 technology allows the treatment to penetrate deeper than traditional microneedling, or other RF Microneedling devices, resulting in quicker and more dramatic results—with little downtime. By adding radiofrequency to microneedling, the energy is delivered to deeper tissues to boost more collagen production and ultimately, produce better results than traditional microneedling. The latest Morpheus8 technology delivers the deepest fractional treatments available, penetrating subdermal tissue up to 7 mm while typical microneedling penetrates 3mm.

The advanced fractionated RF microneedling device targets the treatment area, leaving the surrounding skin undamaged. In effect, the fractionated RF microneedling technology boasts a safer process and allows skin to heal more quickly. Expect minimal downtime with Microneedling with RF—you can go about normal activities the day after treatment.

Some common aesthetic issues that Morpheus8 addresses include:
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Sagging skin on the face and jawline
  • Large pores
  • Dull or uneven complexion
  • Sun-damaged skin
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Scars and stretch marks
  • Loose or lax skin on the body

Which Areas of the Body Benefit from Morpheus8 Treatments?

There are four customizable microneedling tip configurations to target both small and large areas of the face and body. Because of this ability to tailor treatment, Morpheus8 can be performed nearly anywhere on the body, including:

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Décolletage
  • Arms
  • Hands
  • Abdomen
  • Knees

Who is a Candidate for Morpheus8 Treatments?

Morpheus8 treatments provide an effective way to start building your collagen at a younger age. We love this treatment for patients in their 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s, especially. Morpheus8 is also a great alternative for those who aren’t ready to commit to more invasive procedures. Unlike other resurfacing methods, Morpheus8 is safe on skin types I through IV with little risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). PIH is temporary pigmentation on the skin that typically occurs after an injury. If you are at more at risk of PIH, we will tailor your treatment along with pre-treatment and post-treatment care to ensure the safest, most effective treatment possible.

This makes it an effective treatment option for nearly everyone. While most healthy patients are good candidates for the treatments, it’s important to discuss this with a qualified and experienced provider during a consultation.

What Can You Expect During a Morpheus8 Treatment Session?

Our provider first numbs the treatment area with a topical anesthetic, which helps keep you comfortable during the treatment. The tip of the handheld applicator is then pressed against the skin as the radiofrequency energy travels through the tip of the microneedles and penetrates the deep layers of the skin. The length of treatment will depend on the size of the treatment area; however, most treatments require 30 to 60 minutes.

Immediately following treatment, you may experience some temporary redness and swelling. This could last as little as one day to several days depending on the specific treatment settings. At 48 hours you can apply makeup to cover any residual mild pinkness. Patients love that there is no peeling (that is often associated with chemical peels) and can typically resume their everyday routine the next day. During this time, it is especially important to use quality medical grade sunscreen to protect your skin as it heals.

How Soon Can You See Results?

While you may begin to see some improvement just days after treatment, you’ll see results over the next 3 to 4 weeks, with improvements continuing for several months following treatment.

For best results, I recommend a minimum of three treatments scheduled 4 to 6 weeks apart. You can then maintain your results with a treatment at least once a year, or sooner if desired. Remember, the collagen continues to decline as we age. So, think of your skincare treatments as “gym for your skin” – you can’t just go once. You must be consistent.

Combining Morpheus8 with InMode’s FaceTite and BodyTite to Complement Liposuction

Like Morpheus8, FaceTite and BodyTite from InMode are two minimally-invasive, advanced aesthetic treatments that also use radiofrequency technology to smooth and tighten skin while eliminating stubborn fat. The InMode system uses Radiofrequency Assisted Lipolysis (RFAL) which encourages contraction of the dermis, subdermal and connective tissue, and fibroseptal network and fat coagulation. This process simultaneously tightens and smooths wrinkled skin while liquifying fat that is removed with liposuction.

BodyTite is an effective treatment for areas such as the abdomen, arms, flanks, hips and thighs. During one session, you may treat multiple areas. FaceTite technology allows you to eliminate stubborn fat in the lower face area, jowls and neck. As fat melts away, collagen production is accelerated.

BodyTite and FaceTite have been proven to produce up to a 35% improvement in soft tissue contraction and skin tightening. Combined with surgical liposuction, these treatments deliver optimal results for contouring the face and body while creating a more youthful appearance. Results from FaceTite and BodyTite will be visible immediately and will continue to improve up to a year post treatment.

For more dramatic contouring and tightening of the face and body, Morpheus8 treatments can be combined with FaceTite and BodyTite treatments during the same treatment session.
